Monthly Shoot Reports
Check out the action either on the 2nd Tuesday night Pistol shoot or at the 3rd Saturday Rifle shoots at MatValley Sportsmens Range in Palmer, on the Glenn Highway.

Monthly Pistol Shoot December 9th
We were able to stay out of the wind and nice and warm inside. So grateful to have the range this time of year to keep shooting when the temps are in the negatives outside. We can show how tough we are some other ways than frostbite fingers and toes.
Wow, what I night it was, 3 shooters in the expert class averaging 90’s for all three targets @25 yards. Nice work guys!
In the end, Tim Evers came out on top scoring 277 with one 91 and (2) 93’s for the night. Mike Grigsby edged out Gordy Topp scoring 270 even with a 91, 90 and 89 for the night. Gordy Topp scored 269 total with 90, 89 and 90 for each of the 3 targets. Pat Butler scored 211 getting better each target with a 68, 70 and 72 for the 3 targets. Pat Reed was also over 200 on the night with a 201 scoring 66, 80 and 55 with a, new to him, pistol that was a true beauty. Paul Hoekema was just under 200 with a 198 scoring 75, 65 and 58 for the night but the great news was that Paul’s back was feeling good enough to shoot all 3 targets offhand. Steve Anderson DNF’d one target as I was helping a new shooter to register and then shoot his first muzzleloader pistol. We hope that George Schmidt will come back again and that he now has the same love for muzzleloaders that we all have. I was also shooting a pistol that John Leary had made to check it out for accuracy and safety. 141 total not too good but all fun.

Monthly Rifle Shoot December 20th
Wow, 10 shooters on Saturday and almost had a perfect 100 on a target. (yep we kept an eye on him and he was not cheating).
The standard 6 bull to start then a single bull (8-ring, I believe?) then the dreaded bunny target which is almost too pretty to shoot but also hard to see at 60′. I still think I should get some consolation points for shooting their ears off but oh well.
In the end Augustas Topp took top honors as he should after shooting a 98 on the single bull, 84 on the 6-bull and 55 on the bunnies for a total score of 237. Mike Grigsby shot a close second with a 94 on the single bull and 71 and 55 on the bunnies for a total of 220. Bart Topp took 3rd with a 97 on the single bull and 65 on the 6-bull and 45 on the bunnies. Steve Anderson took 4th scoring 90, 81 and 30 on those bunnies with the big ears for a total of 201. Beans scored 177 shooting 88, 54 and 35. Tim Evers was close behind with a 174 shooting 83, 51 and 40. Next came Scott Crocket with a total score of 167 shooting 80, 62 and 25 for the bunnies. Paul Brown was next scoring 73, 10 and 60 for the top score in bunny hunting but a total of 143. (perhaps we got the bunny score and 6-bull switched?) Pat Reed did not finish the bunnies because they were too cute? So his total score was a 125 but his rifle is now dialed in for next time. Pat scored 76 on the single bull and 49 on the 6-bull. JP shot Saturday as well but did not turn in targets for scoring so he remains anonymous or is that infamous?

“It is really great to get together with the guys from the club and swap stories and get advice on loads and different powder patch combinations. It appears that there are as many different combinations as there are shooters”

“I just come to burn powder and have a good time”

“Did someone say smoothbore?”
